It's Beginning to Feel a Lot Like Christmas!

I am normally a total lover of Christmas but this year I lost my Christmas mojo!!

It may have been the excitement of my son's wedding or some annual medical tests I have to have but, whatever it was, I just wasn't feeling the love. December 1st came and went and my Christmas decorations were still packed away in their boxes in the garage. Even my Christmas shopping wasn't happening and anyone who knows me knows how I love to shop for Christmas presents.

Then suddenly, the wedding was over, the tests were all clear and my mojo came back!

The Christmas tree went up!

And a few days later, the rest of the decorations started to follow.

Finally, it's beginning to look like Christmas in my world. The shopping list is being filled and I'm singing along to the Christmas songs at work (I have to say my team members may not say this is a good thing!!).

I'm writing this today thinking about the awful events in Sydney yesterday, but I hope that in this season of peace and goodwill, we will all be able to see past the labels and the religious garb and realise that one lone, angry individual does not make an entire belief system wrong. At the end of the day, we are all human beings and I sincerely hope that we can reach out to all fellow human beings and be kind to others, that's all, just be kind to others, no matter who they are.

How are you all going to celebrate this season? With family and friends and loved ones or on an exotic escape? Do you have any traditions you follow every year?

Whatever you are doing, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2015.

The One Where My Son Got Married

I have been MIA for the last week or so but I do have a good excuse…..my son got married!

The wedding was on Saturday at Topiaries at Beaumont, Draper which is a beautiful venue overlooking the Samford valley.

The day was a very happy and special day for my son and beautiful new daughter-in-law as they celebrated with friends and family.

My Gorgeous Family

After a beautiful ceremony (and just a few tears from me), we then celebrated into the night with great food, good wine, dancing and lots of chatting to friends and family. It was a perfect end to two years of planning and organising and a lovely start to their new life together.

Now I have to get used to the fact that my son is a married man and I may have the prospect of grandchildren in the not too distant future (eeeek!!). But it's all good, their happy faces at the wedding made my heart sing and that's good enough for me!!

Have you had any family celebrations recently? How do your family celebrate big occasions?
Let me know and share some pics if you like, I'd love to see them.

Keep Calm and Stop Procrastinating!

I saw this quote recently on the Clever Cookie Facebook page and it really struck a chord.

I am the queen of procrastinators, not a title I'm proud of but I'll own up to it. Anyone who has read my first post will know that it took me six months to actually press Publish on it.

Since then I have made lots of lists of planned posts and days I was definitely going to post on and has it happened….sadly, no!

I enjoyed my Clever Cookie course and have proudly displayed my graduation badge on my blog, I also read lots of advice on blogging, follow some really good bloggers and get emails with lots of encouraging ideas. But what I really need to do is get my butt into gear and actually post something!!

So I have decided that instead of planning (and even drafting!!) posts, I will actually hit that Publish button, even if it's not the 'perfect' post I imagined. I must confess that the very idea of this scares the living daylights out of me but I know that there are lots of great people out there, some of whom may even read my blog occasionally, and that you will understand and even forgive me the odd dodgy post.

So watch this space, there may be good things happening! And thanks for listening to my rambling!

Are you a procrastinator? What do you use to motivate you? Is it better to just go with the flow instead of expecting everything to be just right? Let me know what you think.

Me Time - A Bit of Guilty Pleasure!

Warning - this post is a bit self indulgent, apologies in advance.

Yesterday I had the most fantastic facial at Ella Bache, Chermside, the Radiance C Brightening Facial  treatment.

Now I'll admit, I've always thought that beauty treatments were self-indulgent, expensive and mainly
for 'Ladies who Lunch'! This slightly discriminatory attitude wasn't helped by me having no time, due to work and kids and not a lot of spare cash to go for beauty treatments!

I did have a facial and some massages some time ago when my lovely son gave me a beauty package voucher for Christmas one year and I thoroughly enjoyed them but then I got back onto the 'working, no time roundabout' and went back to my normal home based skin care regime.

However, in three weeks time, my lovely son will get married to his beautiful fiancé and I decided that I deserved to have some pampering to get my skin, hair, nails, etc looking their best for my stint as Mother of the Groom. So I booked my facial and, oh boy, was it good! Beautifully scented products applied by the lovely Emma and a neck/shoulder/arm/hand massage left my skin glowing and me feeling great. I even gave in to the suggested purchase and bought myself a skin care pack! I am now converted to the facial, in fact, I've booked an oxygen facial for the day before the wedding so that my skin will be beautiful for the day (well I'll think it is even if nobody else does!) and I plan to try and have a regular facial just for some me time!

What's your guilty pleasure? Do you have regular Me Time or do you spend all your time working and looking after your family? Tell me what your ideal day of indulgence would be!

Friday's Favourite Five

Well, it's Friday again and time for another favourites list. This plan of regular Friday posts is certainly doing it's job of making me post regularly, I just hope it doesn't get too boring for everyone else!

This week I'm listing my favourite live artists. This was prompted by the purchase of tickets for a couple of things for next year and, since I have to wait so long for them to happen, I was musing on people I've already seen. I've just realised that this list is probably really going to show my age, so I apologise in advance for any that make you go "What?? Who?? Wow, she must be old!!!

Favourite Artists I've Seen Live

  1. Bruce Springsteen - six times and counting....what can I say, Bruce IS The Boss after all!
  2. Pink - amazing, brilliant, one of the best shows I've ever seen.
  3. U2 - great open air stadium rock concert, took my then teenaged daughter and she loved it as much as me!
  4. Fleetwood Mac - yes, I know, old hippies but they were my favourite band as a teenager, I think I wore out my Tusk album (vinyl, mind you, none of this modern CD stuff!!)
  5. Rod Stewart - showing my age again, but I love his old stuff with The Faces and still have a lot of his stuff on vinyl.
Okay, now I've proved how retro (means old!! ) I am, tell me your favourite live acts. Do you love boy bands from the 90's or is your taste more modern?

I hope there are some of you who share my love of old music and that it's not all rap and modern music, or God forbid, Taylor Swift!! Actually, I found myself singing along to 'Shake it Off' yesterday, so maybe that last comment is a bit unfair LOL!!

Looking forward to your favourites!

Happy Mail!

I love nothing better than going to the mailbox and finding real happy mail. Not bills, not pizza vouchers and not yet another letter from a real estate company offering to sell my house (which isn't for sale!). No, I mean real, actual letters, packages and postcards!

Friday's Favourite Five - Shoes

I have a confession to make - I am a shoe queen! I have so many pairs of shoes, I sometimes find pairs I've totally forgotten about. Now, I don't think that's such a bad thing but I'm sure my hubby doesn't agree with me.

However, I do feel that everyone needs a selection of the basic styles of shoe in the basic colours. How far you expand your collection after that is up to you!
So Friday's Favourite Five today is...…

Shoe styles

  1. Boots - every wardrobe needs some boots. I have ankle boots and long boots, both flat and heeled.  Essential colours are black and tan and I like to throw in a metallic or animal print for a bit of fun.
  2. Ballet Flats - one shoe style I can't live without. I have flats in every colour under the sun, including animal prints and sparkly ones! They can be worn with so many outfits and used to add a pop of colour to the most basic outfit.
  3. Sandals - a summer essential, this is another style I have in lots of colours. I also like a thong for wearing to the beach or for a casual look with shorts.
  4. Heels - everybody needs killer heels. I love a nude heel as it goes with so many things. These are not an everyday wear for me but they are a real feel good factor when dressing up.
  5. Wedges - theses are my staple work style. Being on my feet all day, I find wedges are the most comfortable as they give the foot good support while looking great.
What are your favourite shoe styles? Are you a shoe queen too? Give me your tips on where you find the best shoes because a girl can never have too many shoes (or handbags, but that's another list!!).

Back to the Future!

So, yesterday I travelled forward in time and all I had to do was cross over the border into New South Wales

Daylight savings began in NSW at the weekend and they are now one hour ahead of us, with the result that when I visited Tweed Heads I went an hour into the future and then came back when I returned to Queensland.

I must admit the whole Daylight Savings thing baffles me. Why don't we have it in QLD? I've heard the usual reasons, it fades the curtains (what??), it wakes the cows too early (how? - they don't have watches!!).

Let me fill you in on a bit of background, I was born in Scotland and so have lived the majority of my life with British Summer Time (same thing, different name). I love the extra hour of summer evening, it is a perfect opportunity to unwind and relax.

Well, until we get to adopt Daylight Savings, I'll have to put up with my phone ringing early in the morning and no-one being there when I call NSW late in the afternoon. On the plus side, I do get home early when I leave NSW and my journey is cut in half due to the time difference!

Are you for or against Daylight Savings? Is there some really important reason we can't have it that I don't know about?? Let me know what you think.

Friday's Favourite Five

Can't believe how quickly this week has gone! I have spent the last two weeks travelling in NSW and Queensland, so this week I'm reflecting on places I love to visit. Well, here we go with a very belated List No 2...

Favourite Places in Australia

  1. Airlie Beach - beautiful place with a really relaxed vibe.
  2. Lake McKenzie, Fraser Island - largest sand island in the world (which gets a bit irritating, I hate sand!) but so worth a visit with so much to see and Lake McKenzie is truly spectacular
  3. Hervey Bay - perfect place for R & R and the chance to spot whales in season.
  4. Kuranda Scenic Railway, Cairns - a fascinating train ride through the rain forest.
  5. Cairns - love the tropical climate.
As you can probably tell from this list, I am a bit of an ocean lover.  Despite the fact that I loathe sand, I really enjoy spending time by the ocean.

Are you an ocean person? Have you visited any of these places? Tell me your favourite places as I am always looking for new destinations to add to my list.

Friday's Favourite Five

Welcome to Favourite Five on Friday! Inspired by the wonderful lists posted by Rin at Papered Thoughts on her Instagram,  I thought I would do a favourite five list every week. Rin is one of my favourite IG-ers as I share her love of lists and her 365 journal is so beautifully done. So here goes with List No 1……..

Bright Eyed & Blog Hearted! Excited But A Little Bit Scared!

I was skimming through Instagram a couple of weeks, as you do, when I came across a mention of Bright Eyed and Blog Hearted, a course being offered by Rachel McDonald, and being a newbie blogger I thought I would have a look! Well, everything about the course and Rachel's website just called out to me and I thought "I have to do this course!".

Welcome to my Blog!

Welcome to the first post on my blog! I decided to start this blog as part of my New Year plan to declutter, become more organised and make time for things I enjoy. Yes, I know that was six months ago but these things take time!
